With the recent shocking weather not much has been happening in the golf world so I thought I would summarise other remarkable achievements from the past weekends sporting achievements for GB!!
England Cricket's T20 team beat their Pakistani counterparts to claim victory in the three-match series with one to go. This was followed on Saturday afternoon by Jamie Vardy scoring for the 11th straight game in the Premier League to break Van Nistelrooy's record. We then go to Germany where Tyson Fury cantered to victory against Klitschko in his 'own back yard' to win the World Heavyweight Championship titles. Across the other side of the pond, James DeGale beat Bute to retain his IBF belt and then to cap off a memorable weekend, Team GB won the Davis Cup in Belgium on Sunday thanks to the Murrays' efforts. Not bad at all GB!!
Llanwern Halletts
The Llanwern Halletts team finally held their annual golf day and dinner on Saturday 21 November in unusually fine weather!!
In a revised format from usual the team played out a stableford competition where our "no-longer-eligible-to play-for-the-Halletts" Captain Neil Fergus took both the front nine and overall match to win both the Bob Davies Shield and Allan Jones Trophy. Nearest the pin on the 18th (no-one having put a ball on the green on the 13th!!!!!) was won by Chris Mayhew. Throughout the season the Halletts' squad played a knockout competition for the Blackborrow Shield which was won by Carl Webb. Courtesy of the Halletts "kitty" built up over the season the players then enjoyed drinks and a 3-course dinner together with great fellowship.
We now look forward to next season where in the league we have drawn Newport, Whitchurch, St Mary's and Whitehall and in the cup St Mary's (again) away in the first round. We start the season with friendlies away at Mountain Ash and Rhondda.
We are in need of new players for the coming season. If your handicap is 17.5 or over and you want to play team golf and have the opportunity to play some fantastic courses then contact Chris Rippon, Halletts secretary on 07949 819179 for more details.

Another blast from the Past
I have so far been unable to locate (can't find it just yet!!) a Picture of the Victorious Welsh Team Championship side from 1998 but in the search I unearthed this little beauty.
This was when I was a Junior back in 1992 when we won the double at Llanwern!!
I'm pictured back left and Paul White (Junior Organiser) bottom right.
Some great haircuts too!
Electric Trolley - Important News
Due to the vastly increased use of electric trolleys and a subsequent increase of damage to the course caused by skidding of the wheels the Committee have introduced a measure that will allow members to use them in more inclement weather and limit the damage to the course.
Therefore from 1st January 2016 all electric trolleys will be required to use recognised winter wheels before being allowed onto the course. This is a recommendation of the Sports Turf Research Institute and BIGGA. This decision is being taken up by many other courses of our standing.
We trust that all members affected will understand and abide by this ruling and help continue the improvement of our course.

Black Friday weekend Carnage included a massive Queue and some in-store fights (they were more entertaining than the Fury v Klitschko fight!!)
The awful weather helped highlight the fantastic headline deal we put together for the ProQuip waterproof full suit priced at only £109 (3 year guarantee).
Every customer who bought a suit also benefitted by saving £40 on a pair of FootJoy Contour shoes. Kit yourself out from head to toe in quality gear for only £169.
Following very closely to the deal of the weekend was headline deal number 2!! Shoppers were able to buy a Lambswool round neck Llanwern sweater and receive a Llanwern polo shirt for only £5. Kit your top half out for only £49.99.
Because of the poor weather last weekend and the course being closed we have extended the offers for another 7 days to give those a chance that missed out.
The clock’s ticking… you don’t have long left to take advantage of the FREE Titleist Ball Personalisation. We won’t charge you a penny for delivery or collection, but hurry because this fantastic offer ends soon.
