The Derek Pugh Championship As you already know our golfing calendar for this year has been greatly disrupted. But we did want our club championships to go ahead.
This year’s qualification, however, will be over 18 holes only, played on Sunday. So, for the benefit of new members who might be taking part for the first time and as a reminder to our established members, here’s how it works:
What championship do I qualify for? We have four distinct categories of qualification.
Category 4 - The Rabbits Cup - handicaps 21 and above
Category 3 The Junior Championship - handicaps 13 to 20
Category 2 - The Intermediate Championship - handicaps 6 to 12
The Club Championship - open to all.
Players qualifying for the Club Championship will be given the option of playing within their own category or within Category one - handicaps up to 5. Players cannot qualify for more than one category.
How do I qualify for the knockout stages? The top eight players returning the best gross scores will qualify for the knockout stages, in each category.
What happens next?
Those qualifying players will then play knockout match play against each other. The two finalists will play-off on Saturday 26th, September. The match play stages are played off scratch - no shots given.
What do we play for on the day?
On Sunday we play four medal competitions - within the categories listed. The player returning the best nett score on the day becomes The Derek Pugh Champion, and the player returning the best GROSS score becomes the Club Stroke-play Champion.
Do I fill-in and return a card in? YES! One card per player. You’ll be Player ‘A’ on the card. You’ll also be a marker, so your score will go in Player ‘D’ on the card. The players GROSS score will go in the column marker Player ‘A’ on the card.
Do I process and return my card? YES! We’ll make sure the Score input Terminal - computer in the bag room - is up and running and has plenty of sanitiser next to it. We’d ask you to use it, please don’t congregate in the area and observe ’Social Distancing’ at all times. For those of you using HowDidIDo, it also has a score input facility, so please use it where possible. Sign both cards - yours and the one you marked - and place it in the box. Good luck, enjoy the day. The Handicap Committee |
