Ladies Welsh Team Championships Last week our Ladies First Team played in the Welsh Team Championships at Abergele and they put in a sterling performance. I have to say a special mention to our juniors; Lottie Raymond and Jess Attwell who made their debut. Between them they won seven out of eight points an incredible effort. Well done girls. Here is the report from their North Wales Adventure; ‘The event was held at Abergele Golf Club from Wednesday, 19 June to Sunday, 23 June and for once we didn’t get wet. The Championship attracts all the best players throughout Wales with the format being teams of five matchplay playing off scratch. Looking at the draw we acknowledged that if we progressed through the event each match we played would be against a local club. In the first round we met Mold G.C. Great performances by all our players meant a win and a place in the second round where we met the Vale of Llangollen. This was a very tough match with the win being decided on the very last putt on the 18th hole. On Saturday morning we were in the Quarter Final against the home club Abergele. Despite having home advantage and good support we managed a win which brought us a Semi Final place on Saturday afternoon against Aberdovey, who were a very strong team with a good record in this event. Unfortunately, although there were stellar performances from all our players and all the games went to the last few holes, Aberdovey’s knowledge of the course and experience in the event proved a little too much for us. A great performance by our players throughout the Championship with team members; Chris Harries, Lottie Raymond, Jo Waite, Jess Atwell, Ann Harrison and Ann Booth along with caddies Val, Richard, Veronica and Ruth being a credit to our club both on and off the course and also doing much to enhance the reputation of Llanwern.’
