This week we take a look ahead at the upcoming Pro's Day that is due to be another great day for all, look at the stars of the future and how the juniors are getting on, give you some dates for the diaries including a special fitting day, talk to you about the exciting upcoming ladies match and much, much more!

Club news

Pro's Day - Saturday 20th July

Yes, Ladies and Gentleman, boys and girls the Greatest Day of Fun at Llanwern is nearly upon us once more. The 20th of July is the date, so get it booked in your diary. A day so jam packed with fun and games we will be dizzy (and slightly hungover) for days after!

Every year we try and go one step further making it bigger and better than ever and this year will be no different. There will be music, a beer tent, a beer buggy, plus much more. There will also be a Pro’s disco in the evening! We are in discussions for food options at the min and will let you know more next week.
Places will go fast so we advise early booking.

Bookings will open next Thursday and you will be able to enter via the online BRS booking system. This year we have a prize table worth over £1000 and there will also be fantastic prizes up for grabs on every hole.

Entry is only £10 members and £15 non members.

More info will follow in the coming weeks so be sure you don’t miss out.

Mr Captains Mammoth 101 holes in a day challenge

Club Captain Mike Mahoney is certainly doing his bit for charity this year and this weekend he is going to be playing 101 holes in a day in aid of St Davids Hospice. Each round he is going to be playing with different groups of members to help him along the way.

His adventure starts at 4.30am playing with ex Captain Tim (Fairway) Forde joining him for the first 2 rounds (see Mike and Tim pictured after last weekend’s Dalmation charity bike ride).

The 3rd round he is playing with Linda Trendell and Mary Miller and the 4th round he is being joined by the juniors. For the 5th and final round he is playing with his Vice Captain Harold Meese.

We will be raising money all day Sunday in the shop for Mike’s epic challenge so any donations from members and supporters will be greatly appreciated for this fantastic charity. Good luck Mike and make sure you are early to bed on Saturday night!!

Captain's Away Day

Last Friday saw a coach load of members take the short trip up the A48 to St Pierre to play in Club Captain, Mike Mahoneys Away Day.

Unfortunately I couldn’t make it due to staff shortages however I hear it was a brilliant day. Gerry Keighley was the eventual winner with 37 points closely followed by Crunchie with 36 points.

Mike did have a last minute disaster which saw the button of his trousers pop off. Never one to miss an opportunity I saw this the perfect time to sell a pair of shorts I never thought we would get rid of!!!

As you can see from my mum’s expression it was an entertaining five minutes!!

Charity day

Every year the club holds a Golf Day raising money for the local (South Wales) Ty Hafan Charity. This year the event is taking place on Saturday 29th June 2019.

It’s a team event (4 players / team) and is open to ALL Members, their Guests and / or Visitors.

If interested there are still tee times (available 08:00hrs to 15:00hrs) and the cost is £80 / team regardless.

Ladies Welsh Team Championships

Good luck to our ladies first team who are playing in the Welsh team championships this week at Abergele.

Also a special good luck to our juniors Lottie Raymond and Jess Attwell who are playing in the team for the first time in the championships.

Junior news

More Success for our Juniors

Wow, wow, just WOW!! What a weekend it was for our juniors!

Dan Bearcroft showed the adults how it’s done and went and won the 36 hole Gwent Strokeplay Championships last Sunday at Rolls of Monmouth. This is an incredible achievement and we are so proud of him for winning it. Also young Mikey Powell has made it through to the final stages of the European Boys Championships.

Jacks close to home this week

Jack and Caddie Crunch are back in action this week just over the bridge at Cumberwell playing in the Europro. Good luck this week guys. You can follow their progress here and they also have some great local support from our juniors.

Wow. What a strike

How good does it feel when you strike the ball right out of the sweet spot? Pretty special, right? As much as we'd all love to, striking the centre of the clubface on every shot isn't realistic, which is why opting for some irons with added MOI could make all the difference.
