The Derek Pugh Club Championship

What a weekend of weather we had for the Derek Pugh Club Champs last weekend. We saw a total of 294 players over the 2 days which is a great effort from everybody involved.

We would like to thank everybody for supporting this great event and would also like to thank Gareth and his excellent team for presenting the course in such great condition.

Sunshine Tour

Its silly season this time of year with lots of groups of members embarking on their annual golf tours to various spots across the UK and Europe. It’s what being a member of a golf club is all about. Making memories with people that will turn into lifelong friends whilst playing golf at great venues and obviously staying very well hydrated!

Here are a few pics from the recent members Sunshine Tour to Spain. The photos for the newsletter had to be closely vetted before being published! If you have been or are going please share your photos with us so we can put them in here for everybody to see.

Lee Peterson Funeral

It is with great sadness I have to inform you of the death of long time Llanwern member and friend Lee Peterson. Lee was a very talented sportsman with a fantastic sense of humour and will be sorely missed at the club.

The funeral will take place at Langstone Crematorium at 3.30pm on Friday 31st May with the wake being held at Nash Cons.

RIP Lee from all the staff and members at Llanwern GC x

How Far??

It's the USPGA Championship this weekend and with Bethpage Black set up to be one of the toughest test these golfers have had in a while it will be interesting to see what comes out on top.

With most of the field commenting on the length of the course and most conceding that you have to hit the ball a long way to get round this course in good shape it is likely one of the longer hitters will be coming out on top.

With this being said the PGA Tour put Brooks Koepka's yardage booklet up on Twitter for us to have an insight into how easy this game can be... if you can hit the ball a country mile. Take a look at the image displayed to compare his yardages to yours... I do warn you, it's not for the faint hearted!

What would you say if we could show you a way of achieving greater accuracy and longer distance from the tee? You would say yes, right? Well, here’s your answer…

Have you been custom fitted?

First things first, the easiest way to achieve the holy grail of long, straight drives is to find the middle of the clubface every time, which is easier said than done for most of us. Following that, it’s all about launching your drives high with a good spin rate.

Simple, right?

It doesn’t matter how fast or smoothly you swing, if the clubhead and shaft are a bad match for the way you play, your chances of sending a perfect drive into the air will be seriously hampered.
