Captains Drive

What a great turnout Sunday morning for the 2019 Captains Drives In! Beautiful conditions and the course was in perfect condition as the new 2019 Mr Captain Mike Mahoney hit a spectacular 3 wood 217 yards straight up the middle.

We as a club would like to wish Mr C all the very best for the rest of his captaincy and we all hope you enjoy it by having a great year!

Just a little feedback from everyone who went to the Captains Meal in the evening the members and their partners all said that the food was exceptional and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone so a big well done to Craig and his team.

Cock of The North Dinner

An incredible night with a great turnout from all the people who played throughout the tough conditions of the wintery months! Well done to all who were rewarded by a free bar. The meal was amazing so another well done to Craig and his team, also a massive thank you and I speak for all the Cock of The North Participants to Tony Cole and Nick Sayer who did a great job organising this year’s Cock of the North, you both did an amazing job keep up the great work.

Finally well done to all finalists but this year’s winners are Mr Gareth Tucker and Mr Steve Edwards, well done both and good luck in the regional final against the other golf clubs.

More Grip... Less Slip

It’s that time of the year again where the weather is getting better and most golfers and getting there clubs back out while brushing the dust off them! Why not give them a little TLC but having them re gripped. Regardless of rounds played, a grip should always be replaced at the first sign of noticeable wear, including:

Smooth, hard surfaces.
Cracks.
Shiny patches.
Wear spots, especially where the thumbs make contact.
Faded or bare spots on grips that have been painted or have logos.
Complete loss of tack.

Consider replacing your grips if the stock grips on your clubs aren’t the right size. We offer Undersize, Standard, Midsize and Oversize grips in a number of styles and colors. If you aren’t sure of your grip size pop in and we can help you make that all important decision!

Woods you believe it?

It would take a heart of stone not to have been moved by Tiger’s Masters victory on Sunday night. Sure, the American divides opinion when it comes to his off-course antics, but that should take nothing away from the magnitude of his victory at the most famous of tournaments.

Two-years ago, Woods required a nerve-blocker just to attend the Champions' Dinner and all but admitted his game was done. A spinal fusion surgery later and Tiger has completed arguably the greatest comeback of all time.

Tiger's triumph was matched by Molinari's misfortune, with the Italian squandering a two-shot lead on the back-nine as he found the water twice in the space of four holes.

With the next two Majors taking place at courses where the great man has won before - Bethpage Black and Pebble Beach - could we be in-store for something special in 2019?

Mind the gap

Do you often find yourself stuck between clubs? One club will launch too far beyond your target whilst the other will leave you short. If so, you're either very unlucky or you need to come and see us for a gapping session.

Example of poor distance gapping

Distance gapping is the art of putting your set together whilst ensuring each gap between one club and the next is equal.

Take your wedges as an example. Say you have a PW with around 46 degrees of loft and sand wedge at 56 degrees; this 10-degree gap could leave you with a distance gap of around 30 yards or more! What do you do if you need to play a shot right in the middle of those distances?

The same can be said at the other end of your set, but usually this will involve two clubs going the same distance. If you have a 3-iron in the bag as well as a hybrid and a 5-wood, chances are you'll be hitting them similar distances - so it's time for one to go!
