Greenkeepers hard at work Many of you may have seen the greenkeepers working as hard as ever on our superbly kept greens. With many of you often asking us what are they doing to the greens we are going to explain so you all know! This week they are Verti-Draining. So what is it? It’s basically punching holes in the green to allow air to get into the greens subsoil, to break up the thatch in the subsoil and allow the greens to drain more effectively. Why is this important I hear you ask? Aerating the soil assists drainage, improves the soil structure, aids root development of the turf and aids thatch control. This results in an improved harder wearing playing surfaces that can be played on even in periods of extreme wet and resulting in healthier more vibrant looking turf. Aeration also assists the turf to uptake fertiliser easier thereby saving money by reducing the amount of fertiliser required. So, there you go! Any more questions you know where to come!
