Crunchies been busy getting Custom Fit in The Golf Theatre It feels that Crunchie is somewhat monopolising this week’s newsletter already! It’s all good though. Crunchie has been speaking to me recently about getting a new set of irons so we booked him in for a custom fit to see if we could help. Like we always do when conducting a custom fit, the first part is finding out what it is you are looking for from your new clubs and ultimately what is the MOST IMPORTANT thing you want from them? After all you are spending your hard earned money so it is our job as the Professionals to give you exactly what you are looking for. We pride ourselves on our reputation, so getting it right is essential. It was pretty clear from the start that the most important thing for Crunchie was he wanted more distance from his irons (he’s getting on a bit these days you know!). After trialling several different brands and models, Crunchie decided the one that he liked the look, feel and sound of the most was the Callaway Apex (it is also a particular favourite of mine too). More importantly it gave him what he was after, more distance. To be exact we saw an increase of 18 yards with his 7 iron over his existing PING i25 7 iron, but still maintaining great launch angle and spin numbers. He was also looking to lower his ball flight which you can achieve using a heavier shaft. We had to be mindful however that his ultimate goal was for more distance, so we couldn’t go too heavy as this would reduce his swing speed. After testing a multitude of different shafts we found the True Temper XP95 S300 to give us the perfect combination of results and feel. Length wise we went for ½” longer than standard and 1 degree upright. Crunchie doesn’t like to shape the ball too much right to left (draw), so we had to be careful we didn’t go too upright. Also, to help with Crunchie’s release pattern and reduce the draw shape we went for the new Golf Pride Midsize Align grip to help slow his release pattern through impact. All in all, a very good experience and as always with Crunchie plenty of fun! Next week Crunchie will explain the Custom Fit process from a player’s perspective and give you his honest opinion (hopefully it's good!), so make sure you don’t miss next weeks newsletter!
