The importance of a correctly fit putter Jack has been working very hard on sharpening up his game recently in preparation for his upcoming tournaments in Portugal and his first full season as a professional in 2018. The unseen hours Jack puts into his game often go unnoticed. He has recently been spending a lot of time in The Golf Theatre at Llanwern, practicing drills on the SkyTrak launch monitor, competing in challenges which records results and makes practice more fun. Jack has also been using our indoor putting studio to fine tune his putting stroke. Jack was not feeling very comfortable recently over the ball, so we did a putter fitting session with him to see if we could help. Our philosophy is to always Fit the putter to the golfer. The 3 L’s are what we look at, Loft, Length and Lie to ensure the golfer has the correct putter or their game. We look to get the player into the best biomechanical set up we can to help take out the need for manipulation and compensation later in the stroke. The picture below illustrates a great example of a sound biomechanical set up. After conducting the fitting process, we decided along with Jack’s invaluable input that Jack would be more comfortable and in a better biomechanical set up position if we extended his current putter by ½”. Having a putter that is not correct for you can have a massive impact on your set-up and consequently your stoke, leading to more missed putts. A custom fit putter is not just for Professional Golfers. Like Jack, you can improve your putting stats by having a custom fit putter or having your existing putter adjusted to match your build and putting stroke. If you want to hole more putts you first need to find out if you are using the correct size putter and invest in your own personal Custom Fit Putting Experience.
