Jack's back from his Walker Cup Debut

What a weekend it was for Jack and all of the Davidson family who travelled across to Los Angeles to watch him play in the Walker Cup against the USA.

I have to say I have never been prouder watching a golf event and I’m sure that I wasn’t the only one! Jack you did incredible and although it wasn’t the result you were hoping for, you made your family, friends and everybody at the club extremely proud.

We had a fantastic party at the club on Saturday night cheering Jack on Sky. Thank you to everybody that made the effort to come and support. I would also like to say a special mention to club member Dave Harrhy who made the trip across the pond to show his support for Jack in LA.

Finals Weekend

Last weekend saw the club host the finals weekend with some unsettled weather making it tricky for all finalists. Congratulations to all of the finalists for making it to here and also to all of the winners. I would also like to thank all of the caddies, supporters and referees over the finals weekend especially Mike Mahoney who refereed 3 finals.

A special mention must also go to Rich Tayler who finished 2nd in The Champion of Champions event at Cradoc two weeks ago. Well done Rich.

An excellent season for the ladies

What a season it has been for the ladies 1st and 2nd teams. The 1st team won Division 2 of the Glamorgan and Monmouthshire League, gaining promotion to the 1st Division. This is the second consecutive year the 1st team have been promoted with an impressive 8 out of 10 matches being won.

Not to be outdone the 2nd team have also been promoted winning 7 out of their 10 matches this season. Well done to both teams, a fantastic achievement.

Welsh Ladies Senior Championship

Jo Waite, Ann Booth, Chris Harries and Ann Harrison made the long journey up to Holyhead to play in this prestigious event last week. All four played extremely well in what was very difficult wet and windy conditions.

Congratulations to Chris Harries who finished in 5th place and was selected for the Wales Senior Team earning her 7th cap, a remarkable achievement. The Home Internationals are being held this year at Newport Golf Club in early October. It would be great to see lots of Llanwern members supporting her just up the road.

Storm Aileen

The golf course took the full force of Storm Aileen on Wednesday night leaving a trail of destruction in its path. In thirty years of being at the club it was the worst storm damage I have seen to the course with several trees coming down and countless limbs snapped off.

The positive side to it was that it made me realise what fantastic members we have at Llanwern. We sent an email out asking for volunteers and it was amazing the response of how many people turned up to help. Thank you to everybody that came and helped, it really did make a difference and made me realise how lucky I am to work at such a great friendly club.
