Gwent Boys

Yesterday we hosted the annual Gwent Boys Medal in glorious sunshine. The course is in amazing condition at the moment, especially for the time of year and the boys certainly enjoyed it. The event attracted 20 juniors from all over Gwent with a strong representation from our juniors where 7 played. 

I am pleased to say that we also had a strong representation in the winner's circle with four out of the five prizes going to Llanwern Juniors. Daffyd Rowberry stole the show with an unbelievable 76 gross nett 58 winning by ten clear shots! Well done to all the boys especially Daffyd we are very proud of you all.

   
 
Junior Open Day

We are proud to announce our 2017 Junior Open Day being hosted on Monday, 29 May 8am - 12pm. The event is open to juniors, boys and girls. The max handicap is 48 and a post meal is included for all players.

Jack Davidson Texas Scramble Celebration

In Celebration of Jacks amazing achievements on the International stage recently we are hosting a Texas Scramble event in celebration and to mark his victories.

End of Season PM League Supper

Good Friday saw the annual PM League Supper held in the clubhouse and what a great night it was. Thank you to League Organiser John Linton for mine and Scotties invite to the evening. We had a great night and were thoroughly entertained by the excellent presentation/slideshow/mickey taking by John.

Not many people got away without being picked on especially his partner Dai 'The Ledge' Lee, although it was all in great fun and Dai took it on the chin like a true 'Ledge'!

   
   



How Can Playing Lessons Help Your Game?

So most people book in to see me for a lesson based around the practice area, but what some people don't realise is that a playing lesson on the course is just as good. There are many benefits to having a playing lesson, for example, course management, playing off different slopes, green reading and many many more.

Take a particular shot you are not 100% happy with, having a playing lesson can help identify if you are possibly doing something that isn't quite right when you go to hit that shot. Are you having difficulty with poor lies or shots off a slope? A playing lesson can help that as well.

You could be hitting perfect shot after perfect shot on the range but not transferring it to the course… a playing lesson would then help identify if you are doing something different on the course causing this perfect shot to diminish when playing.

Rhi has had a lot of playing lessons with me since we started working together on her swing and has found many benefits such as alignment - it's a lot harder to align yourself on the course than on the range. Rhi has also benefitted from improving her green reading - how to read the slope and judge the speed of putt are crucial to good scoring.

Richard Bentham who is a Tour Pro playing on tours such as the Jamega Tour and Euro Pro Tour has regular playing lessons to help iron out any issues he may be facing during tournament play. Even top golfers need a lesson every now and then!
