On The Course...
I had the pleasure of being able to play 12 holes on Saturday afternoon with my dad and club Legend Steve Hewitt. It was one of the best weather days of the year so far and I have to say how good the course was and what a great job Gareth and his team have done over the winter.

One thing that stood out to me was the importance of the white lines through the winter and the impact they have on the important playing areas. This picture illustrates perfectly the difference they make. I know it can sometimes be a pain to lug your trolley around the long way, but thanks to your efforts over the winter. We are already seeing a big difference in key areas so thank you.
Next week I will be talking about the importance of repairing pitch marks.

The last couple of week's myself and Scot have been attending several CPD (Continuous Professional Development) courses run by the PGA and Foremost Golf. I love to constantly add to my skill set by attending these courses, to help keep abreast of all the new trends in the industry.
This ensures myself and the team can bring you the very latest information and products to help you enjoy the game more.

CON Dinner reminder - Friday, 7 April 2017
Don't forget the CON Dinner is on next Friday. The starts at 7 for 7:30pm. The dress code for the event will be jacket and tie and beer and wine. This is FREE until the kitty runs dry.
Well Done
Congratulations to Nick 'The' Red and Graham Harley and Team Rendall for winning their leagues. Commiserations to losing semi-finalists Neil Powell and Mike Lewis and Darren Donovan and Danny Willliams. The CON final will now be played on Sunday, 23 April due to holiday commitments.
Captains Drive-in - Sunday, 9 April 2017
2017 Club Captain Alan Fletchers drive in will take place at 10.30am. Why not come down and guess how far he will hit it and take part in the ten hole stableford competition afterwards. All members are welcome.
Alan has recently had a lesson with his driver and unless he hits it 200 yards down the middle (that's not him hitting it twice before you say!) I am taking no responsibility.

Junior Get Together
This Saturday we are holding the first 2017 Junior Squad session in The Golf Theatre. These events will have two aspects:
- Learning aspect.
- Fun aspect.
This first session is around goal setting and then some speed golf. We are looking for ways to make golf more fun and this certainly looks like it could be a big hit. We will see how it goes, then maybe give it a go with some of the more energetic adult members. We will report back how the event went next week.

How Can a Worn Wedge Affect Performance?

Last week, I promised how I would report on how a worn wedge affects performance. Titleist recently conducted a big research project at their facility in America and I have to say, I was amazed at the findings. After as little as 75 rounds wedges show a significant drop in performance and ultimately spin.
All wedges wear over time. The three performance indicators of worn grooves are:
Lower spin - results in less control on shots into the green (who doesn't love to see their ball spin on the green?)
Higher flight - less control of trajectory as a result of lower spin.
Less distance - reduced carry yardage due to lower spin.

The main findings from the three levels of groove wear testing, using a wedge robot are below:
Vokey Wedge after 125 rounds of play - 6500 RPM / 35 degrees launch = 24 feet of stopping power.
Vokey Wedge after 75 rounds of play - 7500 RPM / 34 degrees launch = 18 feet of stopping power.
Vokey Wedge with Fresh Grooves - 8500 RPM / 33 degrees launch = 10 feet of stopping power.
I want you to ask yourself the following questions...
Are your existing wedges more than one year old?
Do your existing wedges appear to be worn on the face.
Do your existing wedges form part of a 'stock set'.
Have you consistent gapping with your wedges.
If you have answered yes to any of the above questions, you could greatly benefit from some new wedges.
I would like to challenge you, that we can find you considerably more spin and ultimately lower scores, if your existing wedges meet one or more of the above criteria.
