Lady Captain Gil Johnson Drives In
Lady Captain Gill Johnson had her drive in this week on Tuesday and as you can see from the pictures she enjoyed not only great support from the ladies but also some fine weather (for a change!!).
I know that Gill will do a great job this year as Captain and have fun along the way representing Llanwern. I am a little biased as she is my Auntie, but I am sure she will bring a lot of enthusiasm to the club this year. Gill started her year as she means to go on with a fantastic party in the evening. It was an Italian themed evening and I'm told the food was fantastic and the wine even better.
Have a great year Gilliano from myself, Scottie and Rhi.
Short Game Secrets
This week I had a cheeky little (long overdue!) short game practice session. I was working on low point control and shallowing my angle of attack to enable correct use of the wedges bounce. If you use the bounce on your wedge correctly, it can give you a much greater margin for error enabling you to hit it closer more often. Sometimes, a few simple alterations to set up and changing your concept on chipping can have incredible results. Now is the perfect time of year to get your game ready for the season. If you struggle with your short game or want to fine tune it get in touch and book a lesson. Almost 70% of your game is played from within 110 yards so don't neglect your short game and let us help you turn three shots into two around the greens.
Next week find out how a worn wedge can affect performance and spin.
Blast From The Past
I had the pleasure of re-gripping this little beauty in the week. Some of you may not remember this classic from back in the day, but it's as beautiful today as it was back then. The Acushnet (Titleist) bulls eye putter was up there with the PING Anser in terms of popularity.
It brought back some great memories of my junior golf and I'm sure it will be bringing back memories with, let's say the slightly older golfers amongst us.

Baileys a Hit
I have been doing these weekly emails now for over 18 months now and of all the great, thrilling, must read editions I have written, I have never received so many comments as I did last week and it had nothing to do with golf. Bailey seemed to strike a chord with a lot of you, so I thought I would add a few more pics from his second week with us. He is getting his second lot of injections tomorrow so expect to meet him in the shop soon.
The Golf Theatre - International Visitors
The reputation of The Golf Theatre is spreading far and wide. This week we welcomed our first American guest. A friend of mine was over from Washington and he came down for 18 holes (and a couple of pints as he was playing. He said it helps). He has played in some of the top indoor facilities across America and he was kind enough to say that The Golf Theatre was up there amongst the best he had played in.

Brush Strokes
The weather may not have been great recently but it hasn't stopped the greenkeepers keeping busy. They have recently refurbished the patio furniture and given it a nice lick of paint ready for the (hopefully) upcoming spring and summer. It won't be long until we are sat out in the sun enjoying a well-deserved, refreshing pint of cider or glass of wine after a game of golf.
