Hello and welcome to another jam packed newsletter. Even at this time of year there is always lots happening so luckily I am never too short of content. Hopefully you enjoy this week's news.

 

New Course - Blue Tees/Family Tees

Some of you may have recently noticed the new blue tee markers on the course. This is a fantastic development for the golf club and I would like to say a big thank you to Junior Organiser Paul White for his help with this recent project.

What do the new tees mean?

They mean that at Llanwern we are now able to offer members and visitors a "short course" experience through the use of the new Tee Markers. The idea of the new tees is to make the game more enjoyable, time friendly and accessible to people of all ages and skill levels.

The new tees are also designed to make the transition into the game of golf easy for new golfers, regardless of age. The other reason they are great is because it enables families to enjoy the game together. It is discouraging for a child to play a par 5, 550 yard hole and need countless strokes to reach the green. The new Tee Markers allow kids to play with mum and dad in a way that makes them excited about the game.

We will be holding new member short course competitions over the season as well so watch this space for more info on this exciting new development.

   

   

More New Tee Renovations

Gareth and his excellent green keeping team have been busy this past week laying the new 14th tee so it will be ready for the season. They have also been aerating the greens, aprons and tees with the impressive Toro Procore machine.

   

   

   

 

Llanwern Open Day

This coming Saturday, 4 March we are hosting an Open day for potential new members at 1pm. If you are interested, or know anybody interested in becoming a member please come along.

The afternoon will include an opportunity to meet the Staff, Professional team, members and the Club Captain. There is also the option of playing 10 holes (free of charge) with the chance of winning a great prize.

You will also be given a tour of the clubhouse facilities and get to experience our brand new state of the art facility, 'The Golf Theatre'. We look forward to welcoming you.

Bar Renovations

Immediate Past Captain, Chris Doody, Barrie Williams and Tony Tubb have been busy this past week doing a fantastic job re-decorating the 'John Davidson Bar'. 

I would like to thank them on behalf of all the members for giving up their time and doing a fantastic job.

      

 

Seniors Team Matches 2017

The Seniors Team has gone from strength to strength since matches were resumed two years ago, culminating in our splendid Sabrina Bowl win against Tracy Park last September. We want to continue to improve this year and welcome new and current team members to join us.

We have no less than twenty matches this year from April through to September (please download the fixture list attached) and for about £10 you get to play a four ball better ball round and enjoy a post-match two or even three course meal - what a bargain! There are twelve players in each team. All the clubs we play against are very friendly and welcoming.

There are no handicap limits (up to a maximum of 28) so you can be a golfer of any standard. All matches start at 11am. Home games are played on Wednesdays.

So, if you are interested, even if you can only play a few games this season, please put your name and contact details on the sheet on the Senior's noticeboard. Would all team members who played last year and wish to continue please also sign the sheet.

On Wednesday, 15 March at 1.30pm there will be a pre-season get-together at the club to meet up, give members further information and to discuss any issues anybody would like to raise. Just remember I have the final say! Don't worry if you can't make the meeting as I will contact you with anything you need to know. Here's to another good season!
