All about our Juniors - 'Jnr Presentaion Night'
Junior Organiser Paul White continues to go from strength to strength running our Junior section. Over the past two years he has come up with many fantastic initiatives and 2017 looks to continue in the same vein. Paul decided last year that he wanted a special separate occasion for the juniors.
Paul said, 'Traditionally the Juniors would be presented with their awards just before the Men's Presentation then leave soon after. We wanted to give them their own evening to recognise and congratulate them on the many fantastic achievements they have made both individually and as a section during the season'.
It was a resounding success with nearly 80 people attending the evening. Before the presentation eight juniors and eight adults played a twelve hole competition. Most of us adults were comprehensively beaten but it was a great afternoon and a fantastic experience for the juniors to play with some of the club's best players so thank you to those adults that played.
Paul did a great job organising and hosting the Presentation night and kept everybody entertained with a great game of 'stand up, sit down Bingo' and a raffle with some excellent prizes. Over £200 was raised to go towards the Junior section. A thank you also to Club Captain, Chris Doody and Match Captain, Dave Boyce for helping with the night.
Product Spotlight - 'Steve Reviews the FootJoy Pro SL'
This week it is my turn to do a review on one of the many fantastic new products we have recently taken delivery of. The product spotlight this week is on the new model FootJoy shoe, the FootJoy Pro SL.
The first thing that struck me about the shoe is its incredibly good looks. It is styled beautifully and is certainly going to be of the hottest shoes on the market this year. It was already being worn by over 50 top tour pros ahead of its official launch this month.
The technology that has gone into the shoe gives it loads of comfort, grip and stability resulting in a beautifully structured shoe. Just because it is spike less doesn't mean that you will lose traction either. I have hit shots with these on a wet fairway and they give you certainly as much grip as a spiked shoe thanks to its new sole design.
Don't just take my word for it though, as they are already flying off the shelves. Llanwern members, Dio Jones and Ian Stewart were the first to get their hands on them and were singing their praises. I also have a pair on order.
Pop in the shop to take a look or click here for some more info on this sweet looking, innovative new shoe.
New Goodies Galore
If you have not been in the shop recently you should definitely put it on your list of things to do. We have recently taken delivery of the new clothing range from FootJoy and it is extremely smart. We have Llanwern logo's on FootJoy clothing and plain FootJoy items too. Modelling the clothing is the awesome Jack Davidson. Always up for a giggle Jack was roped into a modelling shoot with Scottie to show off the new range. Although the clothes might not make you play like Jack, you can certainly look as good as him now.
Along with the new FootJoy clothes we have also taken delivery of the new range of putters from PING and Odyssey.
Please click here for more information on the PING Sigma G Putter.
Please click here for more information on the Odyssey O-Works Putters.
Check back next week when scottie will be reviewing these putters.

Winter Maintenance
Winter maintenance work has been ongoing on the course so far, the current position is that the 14th tee alterations are nearing completion and with fair weather, turfing will be completed by the end of next week. Also, with regard to the recent questionnaire sent out to members we have taken note of all your suggestions for improvement and intend to implement where suitable the issues surrounding certain bunkers. We will continue to upgrade, change and remove any bunkers that are not generally in play. This will be an ongoing process until the growing season starts and our focus then is to bring the course back to its best possible condition asap.

Aiming for a younger demographic The European Tour have introduced some innovative ideas for the season ahead. The World Super 6 combined 54 holes of stroke play with a final-day knockout, whilst GolfSixes, which takes place later in the year, sees two-man teams battle it out over six holes in a group stage, before progressing to a final-day knockout.
