Nooooooo, it looks like winter has finally started. 

After such a nice dry Autumn mother nature certainly made up for it last weekend introducing herself with 30mm of overnight rain on Saturday alone. We won't let it dampen our spirits too much however as we aim to keep you updated and hopefully entertained!!

Hero of the 4,680th Week! 

A true hero of Llanwern Golf Club turned 90 years of age last Saturday and celebrated like he only knows how, playing 18 holes (in the rain) with the boys. 

Roy Elworthy has been a member of Llanwern for over 50 years and the celebrations certainly did him proud as it was a very special occasion for him. 

Nearly 40 of his closest golfing friends turned up and made the day extra special for him enjoying a nice curry afterwards washed down with several pints and needless to say a few whiskies too. 

Happy Birthday Roy from everybody at the club.

Little bit of history 

Have a look at this old programme we recently unearthed of the annual Pro-Am the club used to host. If you look closely you will be able to recognise a lot of familiar names.

      
 
 

  

Less slip, more grip 

Make sure you don't fall foul of the wetter conditions and check the condition of your golf spikes. 

With the onset of winter now is the time to check your footwear to make sure they keep you upright on the course. 

Call into the shop for advice. Fitting of new spikes is also FREE and can be done while you wait. 

Our best-selling spike is the hybrid. It combines the traction of a traditional softspike with a hardened steel tip spike in the centre for ultimate traction. Call in to take a look.

 

- In the summer the Golf Club had a new phone system installed to try to improve the member and customer experience. As a result if you are calling regarding the course condition please call 01633 412029 then extension 6. We are also looking at other ways to let you know as soon as a decision has been made on the condition of the course. 

- Last week somebody commented on the condition of the bunkers over the weekend. After a discussion with Gareth he explained the reasoning behind this and said it is only a very temporary measure. Only two greenstaff are in on weekends and at the minute all of their time is taken trying to keep the leaf situation to an absolute minimum by cutting them up and blowing them off the tees, greens and aprons. Research suggests only 5% of golfers go in a bunker during a round so the decision was taken during these few autumnal weeks that every effort would be made to keep the leaf situation to an absolute minimum. We hope you can be patient with us regarding this matter.
