Greetings golfers,  

Last Sunday's Fry Cup attracted an impressive 122 entries. The event was won by the inform Peter McHenry narrowly beating Craig Williams and Dai Jones into second and third.

Although cards being entered into the computer have been slowly getting better Dave Boyce has said that still 9 cards were not entered. This means that the standard scratch is affected and takes him several hours to locate the missing cards. He has kindly asked everybody playing in future comps to ensure that your card is entered into the computer no matter how bad a day you have had!! Two minutes work saves Dave many hours of work.

 

A New Dawn 

On behalf of myself the Captain and committee and all of the members we would like to welcome to the club Matthew Evans, Liana Coughlin and James Hutton. Matthew is our new Catering Manager and Liana our new hospitality and house manager. I would like to wish them all the best in this exciting new development for both themselves and for the club.

A note from the new team: 

Matthew and James at MBE Catering services are excited and looking forward to the development of the food and service at Llanwern Golf Club. Matt has many years experience working as a chef from large organisations throughout the UK and has had his own company that provides food and bar services for the leisure industry for almost 6 years. James Hutton has experience in hospitality and business management and will be on site for all member enquires and event management. 

Matthew and the staff at MBE Catering have full hygiene certifications and are trained to the highest standard in Food Preparation, Cooking and Serving.

Fun in the Sun 

On one of the hottest days of the year we held one of our Junior Summer Camps. 

These are fun filled days introducing golf to youngsters from as far afield as Cardiff. 

It got that hot at one point and the children were starting to wilt so we took refuge in The Golf Theatre and watched 'Happy Gilmore' for an hour which went down a treat!

 

Wayfarers Triumph 

Huge Congratulations to our Wayfarers team who secured the title of League A Champions on Tuesday night. They needed 1 ½ points to ensure victory and they didn't disappoint with a 2 ½ - 2 ½ half away to Blackwood. Well done to everybody involved in winning a very competitive league. 

I think we are going to have to have an open top bus tour at the end of the season for all of the clubs successes this year!

The Cocks is back 

As many of you are aware Cock of the North is now available to enter. There are still places available in all 4 leagues, so pop into the shop choose the league you want - £10 entry per team is required when you sign up. Closing date for entry is 18th September and the first matches will commence on the 2nd October. Last year the weather didn't help, but the competition itself was full of good company, lots of laughs and bitter rivalries! Don't miss out on this opportunity to play competitive golf throughout the winter months, enjoy the social side of the competition and possibly qualify for the County Finals.
