The Gift That Keeps On Giving!

Llanwern Golf Club players have been in fine form in 2016 and this past week has certainly not been any different! 

Firstly our mens team put up a sterling performance in the Welsh Team Championships in Wrexham reaching the semi finals. 

This was a great achievement playing at the pinnacle of amateur team club golf in Wales. 

The boys narrowly lost in the Semi to eventual winners Radyr and once again did the club extremely proud.

Owen Edwards has been selected in a three man team to represent Wales in the World Amateur Team Championship - Eisenhower Trophy in Riviera Maya, Mexico 21 - 24 September. Well done Owen this has topped off a great season. Enjoy Mexico, the course looks a bit special.

Also getting in on the action was the Silver Fox, Mr Tony Horton winning the Gwent Seniors Open held at St Pierre. 

A gross 72 ensured Tony won the 2016 title, another great achievement.

 I think we will need an extension to the trophy cabinet after this year!

Club Captain Chris Doody said "Once again I am extremely proud to be Captain of Llanwern with the excellent performances of all our players. It was a fantastic achievement and I would like to pass on my congratulations to all involved'

Spare a Thought for our Greenstaff 

Our greens are often referred to as the best in the area, not only by the members but visitors alike. To be in great condition they do require a lot of care and attention and years of experience. Gareth and his team work tirelessly to ensure we have the best possible surfaces to play on. This image shows the footprints from only 6 players on a green. Imagine the footprints from 200 golfers per day. 

Next time you are playing spare a thought for Gareth and his team and the excellent work they do!

Scottie On The Road 

Last week Scot visited Beechwood Park for an event called 'Sport In The Park'. 

This event was organised by Newport Council and it attracted 420 local adults and children. 

Scots infectious enthusiasm and friendly nature ensured everybody had a great time and at the same time showcased Llanwern Golf Club to the local community.
