Welcome to our weekly newsletter, we hope you enjoy the read.
What another incredible week it's been for Llanwern.
On Thursday our first team secured the Divison One title, the pinnacle of team golf in Gwent. This is the first time in fifteen years we have won this title. The last time Llanwern won I was a member of the team! Well done boys a great achievement. Equally as impressive an achievement was our second team finishing in a very credible fourth position.
Captained by Adam Savigar the lads had an awesome second half of the season and must be congratulated for the support they also give to the first team throughout the season.
Last Sunday saw Llanwern host the Gwent Team Championships. Every club in Gwent is invited to send its best 5 players to compete for this coveted title. Luckily we took advantage of the local knowledge and had a clean sweep winning both the best team gross score and the best team nett score. Llanwern member Dave Barrell also won both the individual gross and Nett titles with a gross 68. New club manager Julian Sansom finished as second individual with a gross 70.

Today the boys travel up to North Wales to play in the Welsh Team Championships at Wrexham. This is the biggest amateur team event in Wales so hopefully they can carry their form into this weekend and return with the cup. We have won this event twice before, the last time being in 1998.
If you look closely at the pic (sorry about the quality!) you can see a young fresh faced Steve Truman proudly standing as part of the team!!! Good luck lads.
It wouldn't be a complete newsletter either if it didn't include an update on Jack and Owen's recent antics!! After narrowly losing out in the Welsh Amateur at Southerndown the boys headed to Estonia for the European Amateur. They encountered terrible travel disruption including a minor mishap of missing golf clubs!! Jack narrowly missed the cut with rounds of 74, 74 & 72. Owen finished just inside the top 60 with rounds of 69, 71, 74 & 74. The boys are now in Scotland representing Wales in the Home Internationals.
Because of the Gwent Team Championships last Sunday we held a Pro Shop Stableford in the afternoon. Please click here for results.
Olympic Poll
With golf being played in the Olympics this year there has been much debate as to whether amateurs or professionals should be playing. I have a poll on my website where you can cast a vote. As soon as you click your vote the live poll results are displayed. It is quite interesting. Click here to vote in the poll and see the results.
Some nice Feedback this week
It's always nice to get some positive feedback, be it after a lesson, a custom fit or just in general. This week we have been lucky enough to receive several. We are constantly striving to deliver first class customer service and aim to offer you our members and customers the best possible experience every time you visit us at Steve Truman Golf.
Hi Steve, just wanted to thank you for the lesson you gave me back in June. With the few adjustments I have gained up to 15yds to 25yds with my irons and up to 30yds with my woods. Over the last three weeks this has helped me win 3 club nights on the bounce and also to win the Dewstow members and guests this weekend. Next step will be a putting lesson, once again many thanks speak to you soon
Ken Lawrence
Below are some thanks from customers who have recently been Custom fit with Scot.
I'd like to say a big thank you for the recent custom fit experience in your excellent state of the art facility. I had been playing for the last 20 years with the Callaway X 12 irons. I ended up choosing the new Callaway XR irons which gave me an extra 24 yards distance with my 7 iron and a much tighter dispersion. Thank you again for helping me with my game
Paul Johnson
Paul is over six foot tall and has been using a set of standard length and lie Callaway irons with regular flex shafts. With Pauls swing speed it was apparent the regular shafts were not stable enough for him causing a fairly wide dispersion.
After trying various heads and shafts we found the perfect combination for his game:
Fitting specs:
Callaway XR
- TrueTemper Speed step 80 (stiff)
- + ½ inch longer
- 1 degrees upright
- Custom grip, 2 layers tape

Road to Rio
Taking Llanwern to the wider community Last week Scottie took a trip to the International Village in Spytty.
He was working at a Newport Live event called #RoadToRio which was to help inspire families to become healthier and happier.
It was an amazing day with over 4 thousand people taking part.
Scot had a great day giving lessons and inspiring young children to take up this fantastic game.
