Course news

Lewis Brown in GGU playoff

Last Sunday was the Gwent Golf Union Strokeplay Championship held at Raglan Park GC. This event attracts some of Gwent Golf's brightest talents. Lewis Brown of Llanwern played some fantastic golf and was tied for the lead after 36 holes. Unfortunately he narrowly lost in a playoff but did himself and the club very proud. Well done Lewis keep up the good work. It is also worth nothing that 4 of the first seven places were taken by Llanwern Members. Well done lads, it looks like we have great strength and depth at the club! Click here for full the results.

Gwent Golf League Tables

Keep up the good work Llanwern 1sts, Pull your socks up Llanwern 3rds! Click here for full the results.

Adult and Junior Returns

I was fortunate enough to be asked to play in the Adult Junior Competition last weekend with Daffyd Rowberry. Once again it was another great Junior event and supported fantastically.

This was a trip down memory lane for myself and Junior organiser Paul White as we used to play in the old Father and Son competition on the top nine many, many, many, moons ago!

Ladies Welsh Team Championship

The Llanwern Ladies embark upon the Ladies Welsh Team Championship today being played at Wenvoe.

We would like to wish them the very best of luck in the tournament and we will hopefully be welcoming them back to the club as newly crowned Welsh Champions. We would also like to say a big thank you to the caddies who do a fantastic job in looking after the players.

Green Green Grass of Llanwern

Gareth and his team have been busy this week verticutting the greens to ensure the putting surfaces continue to be as good as we have become accustomed to.

Verticutting is vertical mowing and the objectives are:
To prune the grasses to improve tillering and stolon formation. This increases turf density and is very important for all fine competition turf such as golf greens. Used regularly, every few weeks in good growing conditions from April to September it will help maintain a firm low thatch surface right through the season. This will make for a faster playing surface and make scarifying in the autumn that much easier and cause far less damage.

Pros day

Pro's Day Is Coming

Pros Day is soon upon us on 16th July. The event was a huge success last year with our family based America Themed fun golf day.

This year we have decided upon an Olympic Themed event (as it is the first year golf is to be played in the Olympics) with Fancy dress being strongly encouraged.

Tee times are available to book from this Saturday and the cost is £5 per member in teams of four.

There is a hog roast in the evening with entertainment from In Sync who were fantastic last year.

Tickets for the evening must be purchased in advance.

More details to follow next week.

Tour news

Jack and Owen

Jack and Owen have recently been enjoying the high life on the Amateur circuit enjoying some of the finest courses Scotland and Wales have to offer. St Andrews and Porthcawl to name but a few!!! Unfortunately both missed out on the Amateur Championship matchplay stages at Porthcawl this week but it was a great experience for them.
