The recent fine condition of the course has been helping with the scores in recent competitions. Two great rounds by Gareth (Fireman Sam) Willey and Ian Marsh winning division 1 and 2 respectively in the Groves Trophy. Also some fine golf was played by the duo of Lewis (Otamendi) Bee and Joe (#@*# shot) Gibson claiming the Cliff Wood Cup.

US Open 

The US Open is just around the corner and is shaping up to one of the best majors of the year. All of the big stars are finding their form just at the right time with the 'big three' (Day, Spieth and McIlroy) all winning on their last outing...let the battle for the US Open commence. 

We are running a Pro Shop draw for the US Open if you fancy having a flutter to make it more interesting. 

How it works. 

Pick 3 players you think will do well. Points are allocated on their final finishing position. The person whose three players have accumulated the least amount of points will be the champion. 

For Example 

2016 US Open Champion = 1 point 
Runner up = 2 points 
3rd Place = 3 points 
4th place = 4 points (you get the picture!!!) 
Players who miss the cut = 100 points 

In the event of a tie it will go on the order you have picked your players so choose your order wisely placing your favourite player as pick number 1, second favourite as pick number 2 and third favourite as number 3. 

There will be prizes for the top 3 places. Any questions please call into the shop.

 

Junior Open 

Bank Holiday Monday saw us host our Annual Junior Open which was a resounding success. 31 juniors played which was a fantastic effort from Jnr Organiser Paul White. It was played in great spirits and the weather was also perfect!! Well done to all the juniors that played. 

   

   

Encouraging Children to play - It's all about making it FUN, FUN, FUN!!!! 

I have been heavily involved over the years in the development of Junior Golf and have had lots of success taking very young juniors who have just started playing to becoming accomplished golfers lots of whom have achieved the highest of success on the national and international stage. To me however it is not only about how successful they become it is about watching them grow and mature as people and seeing the many benefits golf can bring to their personal development and social skills. 

The role of the parents in their development and their interest in the sport and ultimately if they carry on playing is without stating the obvious massive!!

King Mike 

At the tender age of 14 young Mikey Powell has achieved not one but two one of the most sought after achievements in golf, A Hole in One!!! Pictured is Mike being presented with his King Tie which is what you receive after your second hole in one. 

I'm sure you will all congratulate Mike when you see him next and refer to him by his new title, KING MIKE!!!!

 

Julian Joins The Team 

I would like to offer a very warm welcome to Julian Sansom who has recently joined the team at Llanwern as Trainee Manager. 

Julian brings with him a wealth of golfing knowledge having played at the highest Junior Standard representing Wales in the Home Internationals and is currently playing for our Mens 1st team. 

He is very happy to have the opportunity to assist the club in moving forward and is really looking forward to helping the members and visitors enjoy their golfing experiences at Llanwern. 

We wish you all the best and hope you have a long and successful career at Llanwern.

   

Members & Guests 

This year's members & guests will take place on Sat 18th June. (Please ignore the date in the fixture list). The format is 4BBB and the cost for the Member & Guest is £20. This includes a pint each and a fantastic prize table. 

Entries can be made in the Pro Shop or by calling 01633 413142. 

Tee times are available between 9am - 1.30pm Places are filling fast so book early to avoid disappointment.
