Dave's Away!!
This week our Match Captain Dave Boyce has taken a well deserved holiday so has been unable to compile last weekend's competition results. They will however be in next week's newsletter. There was however one clear winner in this week's nearest the pin, Andrew Browne with his first ever hole in one. Congratulations Andrew.
With no competition news to report I thought I would write up a quick summary of last weekend's amazing performance by McIlroy.
Heading into the final three holes in last week's Irish Open, Rory McIlroy found himself one behind Russell Knox with time and holes quickly running out. He wasn't playing his best golf, struggling to get things going around the K Club - home of the 2006 Ryder Cup. That was, until the par-5 16th. A sublime second shot into the heart of the green set up a two-putt birdie for the Northern Irishman, coinciding with a bogey-six for Knox.
A two-shot swing and a huge momentum shift in the Rory's favour
One hole to play, Rory leads by one. The 18th at the K Club is a par-5 with water lurking for any wayward shots. The perfect final hole. After a nailed drive straight down the middle, McIlroy showed why he is one of the world's best with his second. 253-yards was the number, two feet was the final result. A truly astonishing shot, when the pressure was at its highest, setting up a tap-in eagle to secure the title. The shot of champion.

On the Course
I'm sure any of you who have played the course recently would agree the excellent condition it is in, in particular the greens.
Members and visitors alike (too many to count!!) have said they are the best greens they have played on this year.
Credit must go to Gareth and his fantastic team for their efforts and long may it continue.
Pubs and Clubs
Last Friday we hosted the second Pubs and Clubs event which attracted teams from all over South East Wales.
Organised and hosted fantastically by Vice Captain Alan Fletcher the event was a great success.
Feedback from all players was excellent complementing the club not only on the course but the facilities and the staff.

I have had another busy week coaching and custom fitting. We have had lots more success stories of improved scores and increased distance with better fitted equipment.
This week's highlight is on local club favourite, Past Past Captain, Mr John Linton. John has made some great improvements to his set up this year which has seen his golf already improve however he is now keen to get to work on his backswing. John sometimes approaches the ball too shallow with his irons leading to inconsistent contact and a low point that is often before the ball. This causes fat or thin shots for John and although this is fine with a driver it causes problems off a tight lie on the fairway with an iron.
As you can see from the images the amazing results we achieved with one simple training aid. Fingers crossed John will carry on the hard work and keep seeing his golf improve.
Call into the shop to find out more about the simple training aid we used and how it could help your game.
