Derek Pugh Club Championships Round Up 

Last weekend saw the biggest club competition of the year the Derek Pugh Club Championships played over 2 days. The event was played in fantastic weather conditions (for a change!) and some of the scores definitely reflected that. The event also attracted the biggest fields of the year with 174 players on the Saturday and 154 on the Sunday. These are the biggest fields that I can ever remember so thank you to everybody for your support. 

Congratulations to all of the winners and to everybody who made the event such a success. Click here for the results of day one and day two. Congratulations to the Strokeplay Champion Jack Davidson with gross scores of 69 & 70 and to The Derek Pugh Champion (Nett) Lewis Brown with scores of 66 and 70. Fantastic golf chaps!! 

   

I would also like to say a big thank you to everybody who entered their scores into the computer as well as this really does make our Match Captain, Dave Boyce's job a lot easier. 

The draws have now been made for the various knockout tournaments which can be seen below.



   

NTP - Everybody loves a closest the pin and nobody more so than John Keating on Sundays round. Reports say he hit an unbelievable 6 iron that horseshoed out of the hole to ½". 

Great shot John well done. 

Also well done to Saturdays NTP winner Tim Murray who won with a distance of 240cm.

 

#ThrowbackThursday

Whilst having a sort out last week in the office and repair room I unearthed a couple of photo albums with some real beauties inside. My two stand out favourites featured 2 very young fresh faced juniors, Jack Davidson and Lewis Brown. The photos were taken at my first Pro's Day Presentation back in 2010. As you can see from the re-enactment pics a few things have changed, notably Jacks awesome new afro and over the past few years Lewis has unfortunately found his tongue!!

   

I was also given some photos of the the Old Clubhouse which were great to see how it used to look. If anybody has any old photos of the club, course or members from back in the day I would love to see them and feature them in our #throwbackthursday feature!

   

 

Ladies Welsh Mid Amateur Championship 

Last weekend Cardiff Golf Club hosted the Ladies Welsh Mid Amateur Championship. Llanwern had a strong presence with 4 representatives playing from the club. These were Chris Harries, Jo Waite, Ann Harrison and Ann Booth. 

The tournament was played over 36 holes over 2 days. Ann Booth won best nett, Chris finished 2nd nett and also 2nd gross and Jo finished 4th gross. Well done ladies an excellent showing.

Our new recruit Rhiannon also had an excellent tournament narrowly missing out in the Plate Final losing to Newport's Jordan Ryan on the 17th.

 

The greenstaff were up against the elements this past week with over two inches of rain falling on Tuesday hampering their efforts to prepare the course for the Club Championships. They did however against all odds manage to get the course in excellent shape for the weekends play and they should be commended for their efforts. Jack Davidson one of the UK's most promising amateurs who plays on some of the finest courses all over the world was very complimentary in a couple of tweets he posted. Well done boys and keep up the great work.
