Heroes + Heroines of the week 

Last week's competion entry saw the biggest field of the year with nearly 160 competitors taking part. It's great to see so many members enjoying the busy competition schedule we have. 

There were some great scores including a two under gross 68 from 2nd Team Captain Adam (Donnie Osmond lookylikey) Savigar. Congratulations to all winners. Click here to see the results.

Ladies triumph at Southerndown 

The Ladies first team recorded a comprehensive 4 ½ to ½ victory over local rivals St Mellons in the Pre Qualifying round for the Welsh Team Championships. 

In blustery conditions the Ladies played some fantastic golf to secure the route to the finals. Well done to the players and also to the caddies for their great support.

Pretty as a Picture 

Peter Malpas looks like he has got some competition by the look at some of the pictures I have seen on Twitter this week. These professional looking shots were taken By Paul (Chalky) White and Robert (Reg) Slade which make the course look super impressive. We are lucky to have such a nice looking golf course here at Llanwern.

The Big One!! 

This weekend sees one of the biggest events of the year, The Derek Pugh Club Championship. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us and allow all competitors to enjoy the course in some sunshine. Good luck to everybody.

Please be aware that the course will be closed until 4pm both days for non competitors.

 

Steve Truman Golf Successes 

This past week has seen some great success stories from several students. It just goes to show what some instruction and a bit of practice can help with your game. 

Fresh on the back of his maiden Tour Professional win Rich Bentham secured the Jamega Tour Order of Merit title last week. 

He beat off some serious competition for the title playing against the likes of former Ryder Cup Star Phil Price. 

Well done Rich this is a great platform for the season ahead.

Another success this week was from Llanwern member Gareth Cueto who secured the Wellstead Cup title with a fantastic Nett 65. You can see some of the improvements Gareth has made to his swing since we started working together 6 months ago. 

   

His handicap has also tumbled from 28 to 17 in only a couple of months. It really does make me realise how lucky I am to be able to help players with their games and see them achieve success. Just to be a small part of the process is very, very satisfying especially when you get texts like these too.

 

Teams Pay their respects 

Last week saw the 3rd and 4th teams and 1st and 2nd teams go head to head in the first league matches of the season. With the recent tragic news of the passing of past 4th Team Captain Richard Powell the players showed their respects by wearing black ribbons in memory of Richie. I know how much Rich loved team golf and I know he would have been looking down supporting the boys. 

Well done to all the players for such a lovely gesture and it shows what a great man Richie/ Lloydy as he was affectionally known meant to everybody.

 

Juniors on a roll 

The Junior section is going from strength to strength under the expert guidance of Junior Organiser Paul White who continues to a fantastic job with the section. Last Sunday the older Juniors competed for the Junior Strokeplay Title one of the biggest of the year. George White thought he would give the others a chance by going to Germany on a school trip!!! 

Best Nett was won by the impressive Daffyd Rowberry with 85 - Hcap 19 - Nett 66. 

Best Gross was won with a fantastic 74 by the inform Lewis Brown. 

Our younger Juniors enjoyed their second blue tee comp of the year and we had a record turnout. These events are based around fun and enjoyment. The Juniors are making great friends and loving the opportunity to play on the big course. It is great to see so many smiling faces when playing. I think us adults could learn a thing or two from these young superstars.
