Spring Stableford
What a fantastic turnout for the Spring Stableford last Sunday. We had 151 competitors who enjoyed playing golf on a beautiful Spring day. Long may this support continue for the competitions. Please click here for reults.
Juniors
The Juniors played in the Bill Hart Cup last Sunday and, after a tightly fought contest, George White was crowned champion, beating Luke Bearcroft on the back nine with an excellent 35 points. Well done boys keep up the great work.
Victory Shield Result
Llanwern had a great win in the Victory shield first round with a comprehensive 5&4 victory. Our team of leading Welsh Internationals, Owen Edwards and Jack Davidson, are off to a great start. I also like the way they marked their golf ball 'LTID', which is an abbreviation of 'LLanwern Till I Die', (click here to see the ball)!
Well done boys and good luck in the next round
Brand new Initiative
Last Sunday saw us host our first ever trial Junior Blue Tee event. It was a fantastic occasion supported by eight of our up and coming younger superstars, who are not quite ready to play the full length course yet.
What are the Blue Tees?
The blue tees will soon be a brand new short course, which will allow youngsters (and adults!) to play a golf course which is appropriate in length for them, making the whole golfing experience far more enjoyable and more importantly FUN!
The blue tees will be a shorter version of our main course and they will have multiple uses.
- Fantastic for Junior development
- Ideal for beginners and seniors
- Fun alternative for adult comps
- Faster golf
- More fun
When are the Junior Blue Tee events?
Sunday afternoon is generally the time when a young junior can get together with other juniors and get out on the course and have a bit of fun and competition. Once they become more accomplished and are ready to move back to the red, yellow, or even white tees, there will be many opportunities for them to play and compete with older juniors and even the adults.
The social aspect of sport is perhaps the most important factor in player participation. At Llanwern we aim to offer a 'pathway' which will provide juniors with a fun, safe, engaging, environment which will allow them to learn and love the game of golf and all that it teaches in the way of life skills.
Below is our Junior Development Structure we have at Llanwern to offer a pathway for junior golfers. At the heart of every stage is always fun.

Adult VS Juniors Annual Match Junior Organiser
Paul White has once again organised another great event, last Thursday. The now annual Adult VS Junior match was played in great spirits and we saw some amazing golf being played (mostly by the juniors I may add). The Juniors were the runaway winners showing the adults how it's done and ensuring the club is in a great position for years to come.
Well done to everybody that took part and a special thank you to
Jack Davidson and
Owen Edwards for taking the time out of their busy playing schedule to take part. You boys are a great inspiration for our juniors and it really meant a lot to them and Paul who participated.
Cock 'O' North, End Of Season Dinner The Cock 'O' North end of season Dinner was held last Friday and proved to be an excellent evening enjoyed by everybody. The comedian was excellent as was the food. The Old Boy wine waiters delivered an outstanding service, as usual, ensuring everybody was kept well hydrated!
Amongst the award winners were
Luis Evans (pictured) who was presented with a cockerel for crowing of his achievements too soon, also
Nathan Doherty won the booby prize for letting himself get beaten by
Pobjoy earlier in the season. Several of the older league members,
Pobjoy,
Peter Fussell,
Algy Williams,
Roy Herbert and
Des Williams were presented with hip flasks full of encouragement for next year.
The overall league winners were
