Product Testing - Round 2!
Following on from the first successful Product Tester Stevie Dennis, our second tester Mr Mike Mahoney gives us his verdict on the new Callaway range below.
"So I was chosen at random to be a "tester" for Steve to get the views of an everyday golfer on a range of the new Callaway clubs....and on entering the training area I was blown away by the range of gizmos and gadgets that we can utilise all under the watchful eye of Steve.....the imagery and technology he has brought in is absolutely first class, it really is state of the art gear and he has more to come soon so he was telling me."
"The start point was for me to hit a few balls with my 7 iron....and everything about each shot....including being able to see it right in front of your eyes....total distance, carry distance, launch angles, spin rates, swing speed, ball speeds are captured and relayed back to you......then after being measured by Steve to see what would be my ideal club to hopefully help improve on certain areas he gave me a new Callaway 7 iron and I proceeded to hit a few balls.....immediately I could see improvements in ball flight, ball control and also I know length isn't everything but I had added 10 yards in distance. Happy days!!
Anyone that knows me will be aware that I never use a driver....I've tried several over the years and never felt comfortable so we came to a critical part of the session....and Steve did say he made a number of New Year resolutions and one was to get me to have a driver in my bag for the summer! However it became apparent that the miracle wasn't going to happen due to my inability to feel or look comfortable and consistently slicing every shot .....so we then reverted to plan b and I hit a number of balls using the new Callaway 3 wood and also 22 degree hybrid.....both were amazingly easy to hit and performed much better in all areas than my current Titleist 3 wood and hybrid.
Steve is always a great teacher and comes across with a calm authority that helps you to keep trying even when things are going Pete Tong.....he never gets stressed or uptight and is always offering additional advice to help the pupil get better....even if it's tips to go away and work on.....he will never sell you something for the sake of it and has your best interest at heart. Suffice to say we have a fantastic learning centre with the most up to date equipment and a great teacher.....Llanwern Golf Club is lucky that we also have a Pro who is determined and dedicated to giving us members the best facilities and service we could wish for." Lady Captain Drives In
Tuesday saw our Lady Captain Hazel Rudland taking to the first tee for her Drive-in, and what a drive it was! Watched by over 50 people Hazel stepped onto the tee and with nerves of steel calmly drove the ball sweet as a nut straight down the middle!
Well done Hazel, we hope you have a great year and really enjoy your year of Captaincy.

Great Send Off for a Great Man
Last Thursday saw the Funeral of Club Legend Mr John Davidson. It was a fitting tribute to the great man and the volume of people that turned up to show their final respects showed how popular John truly was.
RIP John you will be truly missed by all.
Winter League Updates
The leagues are starting to be resolved, subject to any last minute appeals!
Our first congratulations go to Lewis Evans & Matt Thomas of the Blue league - subject to appeal from Colin Wood & Peter Dixie. Lewis & Matt will have to play and win the last week to squash any such appeal.
The Green League will be decided next Sunday, Gareth Tucker & Steve Edwards have a one point lead over Gareth Smith & Graham Lewis but the latter pair (ex Shirenewton) will play against two other ex Shirenewton members whilst Steve & Gareth have to play against Rhys Sayer & James Windsor. I am sure Jeff and Bob will NOT throw it!
Team Rendell have thrown the Black League open to three other teams thanks to their impressive win over league leaders Tony Lewis & Sean Cook. Tony does not suggest that any of the Rendell's are bandits - but is in awe of Craig Rendell's driving ability - off 20! We now have a three-way tie in the league with Lewis & Cook being challenged by Raymond & Holmes and by Mills & Harvey. The last game of the Cocks is these two latter teams playing each other so there is a chance that this league will be resolved on Sunday.
In the Red league, no game this week means that the league is open to a four-way tie on Sunday - best wishes to all of you.
Last minute reminder - please pay your fees in full on Sunday and book your place in the cock's dinner.
