Unsung Heroes
With the recent sad news of the passing of Club Legend John Davidson it started me thinking on all the fantastic work that he did for the club and the way he touched the lives of so many people not only at the club but wherever he went.
All too often it takes the passing of somebody until you realise the true extent of what that person did and what they meant to you and so many others. Because of this I have decided that I will periodically do a section on an unsung hero at the club. People who go out of their way to make people feel welcome, give up their time for the benefit of the club or just simply support the club in anyway they can.
The first Unsung Hero of Llanwern I have selected is none other than my right hand man Scot Hood!! I have had the pleasure to have known Scot for the past ten years and have worked alongside Scottie for the past 6 years. In that time a great friendship and respect has grown and I can honestly say I have never met anybody who is more willing to go out of their way to help people. We do not realise how lucky we are to have Scot working here at Llanwern. The welcome he gives to members and visitors alike is always first class and his smile and sense of humour is infectious. He is an incredible asset to not only myself, but more importantly to the club. Scot, I would like you to know how much I appreciate the hard work you do every single day. As a small token of my appreciation over the work you constantly do I would like to give you a small bonus of a new set of custom fit irons of your choice. You deserve it!
You are developing all the time and you are a Fantastic Professional.
I want you to know how much you are loved by everybody at the club.
Keep smiling and keep winning everyday!!!! You are a true Unsung HERO!!
Lady Captain Drive In
Good Luck to Madam Captain Hazel Rudland who is Driving in this Tuesday morning. Myself, Scot and the members of Llanwern wish you all the best in your year of Captaincy.
Have a fantastic year we hope you enjoy it.
Engines Ready - Mens Competition Coming up
Great news is that the season is only just around the corner. The Greenstaff have been busy and we now have beautiful stripes on the fairways, freshly mown tees and surrounds and the trees are slowly starting to blossom. This means only one thing that the first completion is soon upon us. The date for the first comp is Sunday 27th March. Tee times can be booked online via the booking system.
Run Forest Run - Cardiff World Championship Half Marathon
On Saturday the 26th March myself, club stalwart Steve Hewitt, second team Captain Adam Savigar and his dad Steve Savigar are running in the footsteps of champions and are going to be a part of one of the most prestigious global running events in 2016!
Not sure how this has actually happened!!! We are running the race with 1000's of Professional athletes and one particular Olympic Gold Medalist Mo Farah!!! We are hoping to finish the race before they reopen the streets.
We are running this race in Memory of the late John Davidson.
After speaking with his close family they said his wish would have been to raise money for two fantastic causes. St Davids Hospice and his beloved Llanwern Juniors.
If anybody would like to sponsor the dream team money can be donated into the Pro-Shop.
For more information on the race click here.
Winter Leagues
No league winner in sight as the competition enters its last two weeks.
In the Black League, Tony Lewis and Sean Cook face a tricky run-in against "Team Rendell" and Bromsgrove & Hunt whilst second and third place have to play against each other in the final Week.
In the Green League, Tucker & Edwards have a slight advantage over Donovan & Williams, with Smith & Lewis and Truman & Morgan pushing them close.
The Red League is even more tightly poised with only one game remaining. Dave Barrell & Nathan Doherty have a last game shoot-out with close rivals Bob Simpson & Andy Weston (otherwise known as the ******* bandit). John Saunders & John Prichard probably have a guaranteed 2 points against Edwards & Kimble (who have gone missing over the last few weeks) and Steve Powell & Stuart Smart can make it a four way tie if they beat the Przyborowski's.
Bitter rivalries have entered into Blue League contention. Although Tomas & Evans have a single point lead, their run-in against Williams & Pike and against Wood & Lewis could give the opportunity for either Wood & Dixey or Hughs & Flagg to win. Of course these latter pairs have to play each other next game - and that should be worth watching, It may need a referee!
All to play for!
On a different note, can all those teams who have not fully paid their dues please do so as soon as possible. Remember Cock's Dinner is on 15th April - please make sure you have added your name to the list of attendees if you are coming.

We have one spot left!
If you want a FREE fitting and to trial the fantastic new range from PING click here or call us on 01633 413142 to reserve the space.
Once again this past week the boys have been busy out on the course with the weather finally starting to take a turn for the better. Below is a list of what has been happening lately.
- Bunkers reshaped and re-turfed with fescue bent and dwarf rye grade a turf.
- Taken delivery of 30 tonne of bunker sand for ongoing maintenance and topping up of bunkers.
- Greens and aprons have been aerated with a Toro Procorer with 10mm solid tines. This will provide the soil with air, break up any underground thatch, de-compacts the soil and makes for healthier greens and aprons throughout the season.
