Club Captaincy
Welcome to our New Club Captain Mr Chris Doody.
Sunday night saw the handing over of the Club Captaincy from Mr Tim Forde to Mr Chris Doody at the AGM.
I would like to officially congratulate and offer a very warm welcome to Chris to his year of Captaincy at Llanwern Golf Club. We have got fantastic tradition at Llanwern and I am very confident Chris will represent the Club fantastically at both County and National Level. Good Luck Chris and have a great year.
I would also like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to Tim Forde for all his efforts and hard work over the past 12 months as Club Captain. Tim has shown the Club great support this past year and has represented Llanwern at all the Major County and National events. Thank you again Tim.
Cock 'O' North and PM League
It was so nice to see so many golfers playing last Sunday in the winter leagues. 18 holes open, ride on buggies allowed, it was just like July!!!!! I'm sure some of you were feeling a little rusty after a long layoff. One golfer even turned up without his clubs (no names mentioned.......you know who you are!!!!!)
The competition is hotting up in the Cocks, there are challengers in all four leagues but the headline result of the day was a half gained by Pobjoy & Fletcher albeit by dubious circumstances (Pobjoy feigned illness to gain the half!). This means that Pobjoy & Fletcher have now reached double figures and are no longer bottom of the red league.
Seriously, Pobjoy, as you may know, had a mini-stroke on Sunday and was taken to hospital. He is OK now and resting at home whilst the consultants try to find his brain!!!

Principality Stadium Visit
Even though it is now called the Principality Stadium, I, like many others will always refer to it as the Millenium Stadium!! I have been lucky enough recently to have had two visits in as many weeks. The first visit was to the Under Armour hospitality suite. This is an impressive place to say the least, it must be four or 5 boxes knocked into one right on the halfway line.
Unfortunately I was there to order the upcoming Under Armour Clothing range and not to watch the rugby!! I am pleased to say that we have however secured a new contract with Under Armour. We are now one of their partners where we are now what they call a 'Shop in Shop' account. We are now a major stockist of the fantastic Under Armour range and the new stock is landing this week.
The second visit to the Stadium I was fortunate enough to have tickets for the Wales v Scotland game. Good Luck Wales for the remainder of the 6 Nations. Cymru Am Byth!!
In our ever increasing quest to improve the already fantastic facilities at Llanwern we have made a couple of improvements on the 18th Hole.
You may notice next time you play the loss of two major trees that were quite intrusive on the hole. (Especially if you draw the ball!!) The two trees were felled last week and have made a significant improvement to the playability of the hole.
It gives us more options for pin placements and makes the right side of the green far more accessible. (The trees were also recommended to be felled by experts because of their age).
I think we may be seeing a few more twos on the hole this year!!!
Lads On Tour
Jack and Owen's World Tour continues this week as they play in the Spanish Amateur. I will post results about their Espanol Tourney next week!!
Last week however saw them competing in the European Nations Cup in Portugal. This was a four man team event competing against the best Amateur golfers across Europe. Wales finished third with our very own Owen Edwards (pictured) finishing runner up in the individual. This is one of the best results in recent years for Welsh mens golf.
Well done boys, once again you are doing yourselves and the club very proud. The support you have from the members at the club is fantastic. Keep up the great work!!!

PING Fitting Day
Friday 18th March 12 - 4pm (Only 3 fitting appointments left, be quick)
Thinking of some new clubs? Come to our state of the art fitting centre based at Llanwern offering you the ultimate PING fitting experience in the UK.
WHAT TO EXPECT
INTERVIEW PROCESS - The first step is the Interview Process, during which the fitter identifies your current ball flight tendencies, equipment specifications, likes and dislikes of your current equipment, and your needs and preferences from new equipment. The interview process is ongoing to ensure that your goals are being met through each of the remaining steps.
STATIC FITTING - For an iron fitting, your height and wrist-to-floor measurement are used to calculate your static Iron Color Code (lie angle) and shaft length, and your hand dimensions are used to calculate your static Grip Color Code, or grip thickness.
DYNAMIC SWING TEST - The Dynamic Swing Test is next, during which you hit balls from an impact board with special tape on the sole of the club. When the club hits the board, it leaves marks on the tape that help the fitter understand how your setup and swing affect the position of the clubhead at impact.
BALL FLIGHT ANALYSIS - The most important step in the process is Ball Flight Analysis. During this step, the fitter will utilize a variety of clubs with slightly different specifications to isolate each fitting variable and determine the combination of Color Code, club length, shaft type and flex, club model and grip size that gives you the best opportunity to achieve your desired ball flight.
MONITORING PERFORMANCE - Since your swing may change over time, the final step, Monitoring Performance, is ongoing. Periodic evaluation of your ball flight may reveal undesirable shot patterns with a group of irons or the entire set. A swing change, club adjustment or a combination of both may be necessary to resolve or eliminate these patterns.
