It is with great sadness this week I have to inform you of the passing of two Members of the club, our incredible Chairman Mr John W Davidson and fantastic club member Mr Neil Fergus. Both will be sorely missed.
John was an incredible member of the club and selflessly devoted so much of his time to Llanwern Golf Club. John became a member of Llanwern in May 1964 and served the Club in many capacities. He was Club Captain in 1988, President from 2001 to 2007, and Chairman for many years. He was made an Honorary Member as recognition of his many services to the Club.
John was actually Club Captain in my first Junior year of membership way back in 1988. He offered me help, advice and guidance that first year and has been offering it to me ever since.
I know how much he meant to not only myself but to so many people at the club. His loss will be immense.
Neil was also a fantastic club member who will be sorely missed by everybody. Neil integrated fantastically well with all members of the club and was always one of the first to support the club and get involved with all events. Neil will be sadly missed.
RIP Gentlemen.

Steve Dennis - PING G Series Product Tester Review
A couple of weeks ago we announced our chosen product testers. First up in the spotlight is Club Member Steve Dennis. Steve kindly agreed to this and offered to give an honest review of the new PING range the G Series. I thought as a member you may be able to relate to some feedback from a fellow member rather than something online or in a magazine.
Please read Steve's personal review on the brand new PING Range below.
Being a Protect Tester for Llanwern Golf Club
Well I have been after a new set of golf clubs for some time and I prefer PING clubs so when I found out that they were bringing out a new set called the 'G Series' I thought that's the set to start testing with. I arranged with Steve Truman to have a fitting session to see if these clubs were suitable for me.
So here I was in the new revamped training centre, I thought I was going to see a feature film when I saw the size of the screen and leather recliners all that was needed was someone to serve drinks and yes Scotty came along to ask what I would like to drink, you could not have planned this better Steve.
Steve started to take my measurements to find out what I was best suited for and then gave me a 7 iron club with a regular shaft to try. Firstly I thought that was a fluke so I set up and had another swing and again thought that can't be right as I was hitting it straight and about 150 yards which never happens for me as I always hit it short and way right.
We set up the machine to check my swing, ball speed, club speed and everything else that happens when you hit a ball and the findings were excellent and the feel and look of the club was great. We then set up the driver with a regular shaft and as I hit a new ball that Steve gave me it did not sound right and did not go any distance, I started to think that maybe this was not the club for me so I gave it another go, again it did not feel right so when I was setting up for my 3rd swing I decided to take a look at the ball and yes I could not believe it the ball had a split down the middle. I thought to myself bloody hell I hit it that hard I split the ball but then Steve piped up 'no you did not hit it that hard it was a faulty ball'. Talk about bursting a bubble.
Anyway the feel of the driver was far better than my old clubs (G25) I was getting at least 15 yards more carry than before and straighter flight. We then moved onto the Fairway wood and the Hybrids again the feel, flight and distance were better than my old ones.
I can't wait to get my hands on the new set and to give them a go on the course. I will give you my feed back when that happens (if the rain ever stops on the weekend).
If I play as well as in the training centre hopefully I will see my handicap coming down.
I must also add that the new screen and facilities will be absolutely fantastic when finished I highly recommend that you all take a look and get ready to make a booking as I most certainly will be.

A Bit of Fun
Some more fun for you this week. We've all had those rounds before where we lament our luck on the course with every possible bounce going the wrong way and putts hitting the edge of the hole, but when do we remember the good times?!
