Greetings golfers, 

Welcome to the second edition of our 2016 newsletter from a very wet (hopefully soon to be drier!!) golf course. 

Despite the recent weather we have still been busy at the club getting the shop, studio, clubhouse and course ready for the year ahead. We have been flat out making every effort to ensure 2016 is our clubs best year yet!! 

Despite the poor weather and the course closures the shop is very much open for business and our first class indoor heated studio is available for lessons and custom fitting.



Despite the poor weather the greenkeeping team have been very busy making every effort to prepare the course for the coming season. 

   

These have included: 

-  Bunker Program - including reshaping and re-vetting bunkers on holes 1,3,11, & 18 so far 

- Tree felling (we have one more to fell on the 18th but are scared that if we do it at the minute we could cause a tsunami in the village). 

- Tree re-planting program 

Winter wheel reminder - Please be aware that from the 1st Jan the club have enforced the use of recognised winter wheels only on electric trolleys. Any queries regarding this matter please call us in the pro-shop for more information. Life jackets are also available in the shop for weaker swimmers!!

   

 

We are delighted to introduce you to the clubs new mascot, Baxter! ( Pictured above).

Our Club Captain Mr Tim Forde brought him to the club last Saturday for a paddle!



Match Captain Dave Boyce is working hard to get the fixture list completed and it will be published in the next few weeks. You will also be able to view the fixture list here in the near future.

Cock of the North News 

Pobjoy and Fletcher were last seen doing a rain dance on the 9th green on Tuesday. When questioned they said they have accumulated more points this year than all of the other years combined! 'Long may the rain continue' were their parting words!

Llanwern on Tour Down Under Update

As reported last week , Llanwern members Jack Davidson and Owen Edwards are currently touring Australia playing some of the Worlds best Amateur golf events. The first tournament they participated in was The Australian Master of the Amateurs, held at Royal Melbourne Golf Club. Both players performed admirably and coped well with the large firm and very quick greens. Jack finished the four round tournament with a total of 292 with scores of 73,75,72,72 and finished in a very impressive tied 9th position. Owen finished in a tied 41st position with a total of 301 consisting of rounds of 74,74,76,77. 

The eventual winner was current World no8 in the Amateur Rankings, Aaron Wise from the USA.

In a tight schedule the boys have now moved on to the next tournament, The Australian Amateur, being played at two venues, The Metropolitan Golf Club and the Peninsula Kingswood Golf Club both in Melbourne. There are 240 competitors in this tournament completing 36 holes of strokeplay, with the top 64 and ties qualifying for the match play knockout stages. Owen and Jack both qualified for the match play stages and live scoring can be found at www.golf.org.au.

Coming Very Very Soon 

Watch this space next week for one of the biggest, most exciting, modern technological improvements the club has ever seen. This introduction and cutting edge facility will catapult the Club to be the envy of all other clubs in Wales and the South West.

Steve Truman Golf Night out 

We had a great night out at the Rock and Fountain in Penhow last Saturday for our, 'Better late than never' Christmas shindig!! Scottie was on top form enjoying the Peroni, red wine and unbelievable fillet steak!!! The night was rounded off nicely by Scottie declaring/ slurring to my wife that we was absolutely P#@##d!!!!!
